Apocalypse Now

Apocalypse Now was a good movie.

Apocalypse Now to me felt like a really war movie comparable to Full Metal Jacket and many other films that were made about the Vietnam War. Apocalypse Now by Francis Ford Coppola could be one of the best epic war films.  The movie shows a series of horrific events in an incredibly organized fashion. Captain Willard receives a mission to go out and search for Colonel Kurtz. Colonel Kurtz was from a military family, he was an extremely decorated military figure, and he was being groomed for a position in politics. After being in Vietnam for a while he went insane. For Kurtz and many other soldiers, the horror that was seen during the war in Vietnam was blurring the lines between what was moral and what had to be done to survive. It is very evident that the war does change people both psychologically and personality wise. Captain Willard experiences this along with his cremates  Lance who was not affected by the war going on around him, is sitting around working on his tan. Clean is being an airhead about the combat situation, however; he still gets thrilled about the radio. Chef is in so much denial, that he thought it was perfectly fine to go on a mango hunt in the jungle at nighttime. Chief seems too calm and optimistic, but every crew has that type of person that hangs around them. As the movie progresses, you can see each character slowly change which literally develops Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Granted a war movie is sad and depressing, but Apocalypse Now definitely rates high in my book on films that depicted the Vietnam War.
