psychology of soldiers

The psychology of soldiers of war vary from person to person. For example you have chef who after getting chased by the tiger almost has a complete breakdown, compared to the colonel of the air cavalry who was basically fearless in combat situations and was willing to risk his and his soldiers lives just to catch some waves. It shows how soldiers try to get the war feel as much as home as possible. Which the movie says just makes them miss home that much more which is a statement I can personally agree with. It showed soldiers like the captain who had dealt with his issues using alcohol to get completely tanked, in an attempt to forget about the war for awhile. The professional surfer who was just trying to not get blown up or shot while he was with the Colonel, just a kid trying to get home in one piece. You got the skipper of the boat who is fine as long as his ship is, puts his heart and soul into the ship it becomes a part of his life.
Much like in The Things they Carried it gives a short bio of the men and who they were before the war. This is an important detail to me cause it shows that most were not vaulenteers for the war but were drafted or signed up in order to get the job they wanted because they knew they would get drafted. They were normal civilians thrown into a war they want nothing to do with. They were just guys trying to get there way home. While the Captain was Special Forces so he would volunteer to go on the deadliest missions available, would put himself into the worst situation possible for whatever reason, and he would like it.
